Effective Brainstorming

authorPosted by Gagan, Sunday, January 1st, 2006 | About this Post

Christmas has come and gone. You have eaten more sweet things than you really should have, and are back at work (kinda). Well, we are not quite done with the spirit of giving (or the sugar high!). So this month instead of an article we present to you a wee little document that we like to call ‘Effective Brainstorming’. While it is not meant to be an encyclopedic white paper on brainstorms, it captures some of the key points we have learnt along the way about the magical process of Brainstorming.

So here’s to looking forward to an exciting year ahead with many new things in store. We wish you and yours a fulfilling 2006.

This is beautifully crafted and concise. I would however suggest that you are missing one critical element in the brainstorming process – “Play”. The concept or process of warming up before the actual brainstorming “work” begins. Initially this is often considered a waste of time or embarrassing for designers. Upon reflection from all participants it has proven to be invaluable.

I have no evidence to back this up (yet) but I have seen a distinct difference in the numbers of unique ideas generated when all participants are “standing” around a large table with lots of paper rather than sitting and waiting for their turn.

    My 2 cents
